As a habit or intention of living my weekends to be extraordinary, I often curate quick getaways. It's my amplifier of good things and my workout to beat burn out. I don't know about you, but I'm working like mad on weekdays. Naturally, I long for a relaxed vibe during the weekend with balance for fun and excitement for my favorite travel companions - my boys.

So, a little R&R at a boutique hotel, 2-hour drive from Manila going north to Subic Clark in Pampanga made up one of my most splendid weekend. My destination is at Green Canyon Eco-Art Resort in Bamban, Clark. I'm very tempted to claim that it's actually crafted for me and my family. I love it!

WHY I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PLACE

I felt the personal touch of this resort because it didn't just serve me my wishes of relaxation, fun and excitement but has given me a weekend of art appreciation, savory gastronomic experience, revitalising recreational activities and a starry night while falling in love with nature and the persons I am with more. Cheesy but that's how you'll feel when you booked to this resort.

The resort is a combination of luxury and nature. You get the modern feel of a hotel room accommodation with all the room services and free amenities to give you a comfortable sleep. While the building itself is a refreshing sight with its eco-friendly design. The lobby has high-ceiling and open up to vast space with lots of plants and natural light coming thru its glass walls. Outside can never be more spacious with all the greens and mountains reminding its guests the beauty of nature and uncluttered surrounding. It's an authentic escape from the urban scenery.

Looking unique but well-thought off, the lobby is also a contemporary art gallery of the creations of Niccolo Jose, the resort's in-house artist and designer of its furnitures.

THE ROOMS & AMENITIES

Our stay in an upgraded standard room was like a stay on a 4-star hotel in a city. I love the white, soft and clean bedsheets and pillows while tuning in to some movies on Star World when the sun is too much to explore the outdoor. Honestly, I don't watch TV at home too often, so that was real treat for me. It's like ice cream on a hot summer day! (For accommodations, check rates here)

The resort has wide area to bike or have picnic or play with the kids on its playground. For us, we spent the afternoon biking, swimming and exploring the grounds until the beautiful sun sets.

Before sunrise, you should experience the Green Canyon Journey or the organised hike to the mountains to see the beautiful glow of break of dawn and the grounds below as the sunlight illuminates it. Very refreshing view and revitalising to your health having a healthy activity first thing in the morning. The hike is about 45 minutes for one-way and depends on how fast you can do your way down. But it's perfectly timed to prepare you for the sunrise.

Exploring more of the grounds is an adventure. And I appreciate that they grow their own food, too!

WHERE TO EAT

Palette Restaurant is where to dine when in the resort. The farm-to-table offerings comprise a variety of Filipino dishes that truly satisfies your palate. It has done its magic on us, making me realise how the regional dishes of Kapampangans stand out.

During the day, its al fresco arrangement gives a breathtaking view of distant mountains as well as Green Canyon’s own green expanse. Our room has a complimentary breakfast buffet and I really love their tocino. The choices may not be plenty but everything is prepared professionally.

HOW TO GET THERE

Private Car
  1. Drive to EDSA or Mindanao Avenue to North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) segment 8.1/C-5 in Novaliches, Valenzuela.
  2. Take NLEX/E1/R-8 to Prince Balagtas Ave in Clark Freeport, Mabalacat. Take Exit 91-Clark from NLEX/SCTEX/Subic - Clark - Tarlac Expy/R-8
  3. From exit, continue on Prince Balagtas Avenue before turning right to Sacobia River Bridge for about 2.7km.
  4. Turn left on Bamban road and go straight ahead for about 1.1km before turning left and about 250m you'll reach your destination.

  1. Just in time! I spent the last week searching for staycations in or near Manila. There don't seem to be any other people in your pictures. Is the crowd always small then in Green Canyon Eco-Art Resort?

    1. The place is vast. And I guess we're there on non-peak season so we got a really relax stay. Hope you'll enjoy your stay, too! :)

  2. From the looks of it, the place offers so much more. What entices me more about this place is the greenery that it offers when you go there. Living in the metro can be so toxic that would leave you wanting for more nature. So far, this surely offers it! I can't keep looking at the pool area and the outdoor area.

  3. I had been in this artsy resort almost two years ago, and I can still remember everything about it. I loved the lobby, the rooms and basically everything. I enjoyed the complimentary bicycle rides around the resort. And the fact that they have their own garden to support food production for their in-house restaurant which served the best kare-kare ever. Plus the trek on the property hill is like the cherry on an ice cream for an adventurer like me. Lastly, they have ultra fast internet. But a couple of cons though, no mobile signal and pricey.

    1. Oh yeah the food! I've experienced the cons of having no mobile service while I'm in the middle of the play area and I left something I need in the room. I've used all the other apps - viber, pm, etc. good thing there's strong internet signal outdoors. :)

I like the peaceful ambiance that would give me time to reflect on so many things. The fresh feeling you'll get from the view is really beyond compare. It is clean and so welcoming. I haven't heard about this Hotel yet and I'll surely bear this in mind for future reference. Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful experience with us. I'm looking forward for more of this.

  10. This seems like a great eco-nature resort. I would love to embark on that organized hike and the beauty of nature at dawn. By the way, is the usage of bike included in the resort payment or you have to pay extra to rent it? And do they offer full board meals.

  11. This is my kind of place! Good that you mentioned about the quality of the accommodations. I am unashamed to say that I NEED great accommodations for me to enjoy the entire holiday, especially in an ecological destination where a lot of the activities will be outdoors. Thanks for the great review!!

    1. Yes Martine, holidays must be spent well! Clean sheets are okay but having a nice clean room to shower, lined with all luxe smelling bath accessories and with a speedy Wi-Fi is much better, right? ;)

It's also nice to know that they grow all their food.. you would know that it's fresh farm to table. And the activities! Only few hotels and resorts that I know of offers biking and hiking.
